Hi, I'm Sara!

I'm a wife, boy mom x 2, Tar Heel, traveler, hiker, former K-2 teacher, and lover of literacy. More than anything, I love helping children learn in ways that feel meaningful, playful, and built for real life, busy days.

After studying Elementary Education at UNC Chapel Hill, I spent 8 years teaching in North Carolina, Colorado, and Tennessee classrooms. During that time, I became especially passionate about early literacy and helping children grow into confident readers.

Wanting to better understand how children learn to read, I completed LETRS in 2021, a program grounded in the Science of Reading and accredited by the International Dyslexia Association. That training continues to shape the way I design learning experiences today, combining explicit, research-based instruction with playful, hands-on activities that children genuinely enjoy.

Then I became a mom.

Suddenly, I wasn't just thinking like a teacher anymore, I was thinking like a parent. I understood firsthand how hard it can be to know what's actually worth your time. I remembered the conversations I'd had with so many families over the years who wanted to help their children at home but weren't sure where to start.

That's why I created Hooray Learning.

Here you'll find reading resources, sensory play ideas, baby and toddler activities, printable learning materials, local classes, and practical ways to support your child's development at home. Everything is designed to take the guesswork out of learning while protecting the wonder, creativity, and magic that make childhood so special.

Whether you're introducing tummy time to a three-month-old, helping your preschooler learn through play, or giving your elementary reader extra practice at home, I'm so glad you're here.
